The Creative Self Project

THE CREATIVE SELF PROJECT

In 2021 I created The Creative Self Project which has been designed for young breast cancer survivors to explore their creative energy and seek a self-care outlet during any stage of their cancer journey. I have been wanting to create something for this strong and beautiful community for some time now. The Creative Self Project bloomed from many months of thinking about how I could do that, how I could bring something self-soothing to all stages of young people living with breast cancer: Previvors, Survivors, Thrivivors, and Metavivors. The first year of The Creative Self Project was a true success. It took place once a month for 10 months virtually. Each month was inspired by a different idea or theme to invoke creative projects that filled a hand-sewn journal that I sent out to every participant. Our projects involved drawing, painting, writing, collage, and more. All projects were beginner-friendly. After the first year of TCSP I started to finish my graduate degree therefore I had to put TCSP on hold for now. I am excited for when I am able to start this project again for survivors who need a creative outlet during their cancer journeys. Follow: @thecreativeselfproject

 DETAILS ON HOW IT WORKS

Once a month you will set aside 2 hours for yourself to get creative, talk to other young survivors, and be inspired. Your journal will be your personal record of this project. These classes will be filled with connection, conversation, sharing, and intention. We will check in with each other, vent, discuss, and let go. All kinds of topics are open for discussion during our sessions - With the intent that it is to bring comfort, support, education, and understanding to all that participate. Being sensitive to all diagnoses, stages, treatments, and recoveries. We need a space to just LET GO, do something with our hands, zone out, and feel light and free for those 2 hours.

*Each month I will ask that you take an overhead photo of your journal page layout from that month so that I can start a gallery on my website and on Instagram. I will need you to include your name, diagnosis, and a one or two-line sentence about yourself. I want people to see the work you create and how it is a reflection of you and your journey.

WHAT YOU NEED

These classes are FREE. There is just a one-time fee of $15 that covers the cost of shipping your journal and the supplies I use to make your journal. Any additional supplies you may need for the classes will be announced ahead of time based on the type of class we will be doing. Examples of additional supplies for each class could include pencils, pens, markers, watercolor paints, acrylic paints, magazines, printed images from the computer, etc.

ALL ARE WELCOME: THIS IS A SAFE SPACE THAT WELCOMES EVERY RACE, GENDER, CULTURE, SEXUALITY, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, DISABILITY, CANCER STAGE AND JOURNEY.
